Showtime Nabs Twilight
It's the teen (and adult for that matter) sensation that has swept the nation, and now Twilight has done it again. From a best-selling novel to a mega-hit movie, Twilight is racking up fans devoted to Stephanie Meyer's vision. Twilight is the story of a human adolescent girl who falls in love with a vampire, and all the complications that ensue. Though some think it to be a fad, others recognize its wide appeal. The movie itself debuted in the box office with over 70 million dollars in total earnings in its first week. Now, Showtime has picked it up as well.
Showtime is working on boosting its movie selection, and Twilight is sure to do just that. It’s more than simply Twilight however. Showtime and Summit Entertainment have made a deal that gives 42 films produced between 2008 and 2012 to the network. These 42 movies include Twilight and all the forthcoming movies from that series. Showtime is also making a deal with the Weinstein Company, this time for 95 films.
Matt Blank, President of Showtime, said “We’re very happy to be in business with Summit Entertainment. The extraordinary success of Twilight and the films in Summit Entertainment’s pipeline will be a great addition to Showtime’s solid movie library at a price that is consistent with today’s marketplace.” He added to the statement, “This new exclusive output agreement will further solidify Showtime’s ability to provide our subscribers the best mix of award-winning original series and quality theatrical motion pictures for years to come.”
Now more than ever, viewers can expect great things from Showtime, as the upcoming lineup promises to be full of high-quality entertainment.
